Bogotá’s Chapinero neighborhood is one of Latin America’s most vibrant and eclectic areas for several reasons. This district blends the old with the new, with an impressive cultural heritage coexisting with the most modern clubs, shops, and hotels. Whether you’re looking for chic luxury hotels or quirky and unique guesthouses, this barrio has something to offer every type of traveler. In this post, I’ll explore some of the coolest hotels in Chapinero. From luxurious boutique options to eco-friendly accommodations, you will find an unforgettable place to stay on this list.
Chapinero: History, Location, Things to See and What to Do
Chapinero is located north of Bogotá’s city center. This area stands out for its educational institutions, commercial activity, and eclectic architecture. The municipalities of Santa Fe border it to the south, Barrios Unidos to the west, and Usaquén to the north.
Chapinero’s history dates back to the 16th century when it was established as a small village. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it started developing into one of Bogotá’s most vital neighborhoods. The construction of significant landmarks, such as the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes in 1875, marked its initial growth.
Today, Chapinero stands out for commercial areas like Zona G, celebrated for its high-end restaurants and cafes showcasing Bogotá’s culinary scene. Meanwhile, the Zona T area houses boutiques from luxury brands like Versace and Dolce & Gabanna. So, it is an excellent location for a first trip to Bogotá.
Chapinero is also the best area to stay in Bogotá for nightlife, commonly referred to as Bogotá’s LGBTQIA+ district. This reputation began solidifying in the late 20th century with the emergence of many gay-friendly bars and clubs. Among these, “Theatron,” which opened in 2002 in an old theatre building, stands out. It is one of the largest gay clubs in Latin America, featuring multiple dance floors with different music genres. You could spend a whole night at Theatron and feel like you went bar hopping without having to walk that much.
The neighborhood’s architecture juxtaposes old and new. The southern part of Chapinero features more historical buildings with British influences and narrower streets, while the northern section transitions to high-rise apartments and modern office buildings.

Criteria for Cool and Unique Hotels
Now, before I (finally) reveal my list of the coolest hotels in Chapinero, I’d like to explain what makes a hotel cool, according to me.
As in my post about the coolest hotels in El Poblado (Medellín), I’ve considered each hotel’s features, facilities, and amenities for this list. Likewise, the hotels’ vibe, decor, architecture, and user ratings also influenced their place on the list.
