Jerez de la Frontera’s Old Town is in the center-north part of the city. It is a must-see during a trip to the city because it has many buildings from a long time ago and beautiful streets.
The Old Town has a history that goes back many years. You will find buildings from when Muslim rulers were in Spain in this area. Later, it was part of Christian kingdoms. You can see this mix of histories in the striking contrast of the building styles in the neighborhood.

Circuito de Jerez, officially known as Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto, is a racing circuit located northeast of the city. It is roughly ten kilometers from the Old Town.
The circuit opened its doors to racing in 1985. Since then, it has hosted numerous motorsport events, including the prestigious MotoGP races and the Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix. Due to the favorable weather conditions of the region, this circuit also serves as a test track for Formula One teams during the off-season. Jerez de la Frontera’s train station has a very central location west of the Old Town. The building mixes elements of the Renaissance with a Neo-Mudéjar twist. It officially opened in 1856, serving the first rail line in Andalusia, connecting the capital of Cadiz with Puerto de Santa María in the same province.
Currently, the station offers commuter, middle-distance, and high-speed, long-distance trains. So, if you’re looking to visit other cities in the province or Spain, this is among the best areas to stay in Jerez de la Frontera. You can hop on a train from the station to Cadiz’s capital, Seville, Madrid, and Cordoba, among other Spanish destinations.
The area around the station stands out for its budget-friendly tapas, bars, and restaurants, including several serving traditional Spanish dishes. Likewise, the district’s accommodation options include cheap tourist apartments.
Being the central railway hub in Jerez de la Frontera, the station has excellent public transport connections with the rest of the city. So, you can use buses or taxis to go from this area to the city center or the airport. Yet, the Old Town is also within walking distance, so you can walk to places like the Alcazar and be there in 20 minutes or less.

Where to Stay in Jerez de la Frontera: Our Personal Experience
Many tourists, especially in the summer, see Jerez de la Frontera only as a passing city on their way to the capital of Cadiz or the charming towns and beaches in the province. However, this beautiful city is more than worth visiting.
During our first and, for now, only time in Jerez, we stayed in the Old Town, in the heart of the city. After landing at the city’s airport, the only one in the Province of Cadiz, we took a taxi to the hotel and were there in a little over 10 minutes. However, you can also take a bus to the city center from Monday to Friday and be there in about 30 minutes. A taxi ride costs about 15-19 euros, while the more budget-friendly buses don’t even reach the two-euro mark.
Staying in the Old Town is the best option during a first trip to Jerez de la Frontera because of its central location, which is within walking distance from the major sites. However, if you’re visiting the city for a motorsports event or business and have to catch an early flight out, you may benefit from staying near the Circuito de Jerez/Airport.
In terms of accommodations, you can find all kinds of hotels in the Old Town, from luxury 5-star accommodations to B&Bs and small, family-run hotels. We stayed at Hotel Doña Blanca during our visit, and it was a great choice. The hotel was clean and comfortable, had an excellent location, and had friendly staff that made us feel at home.
